25/01/2013 Friday Reflection

This week during English we started to learn about poetry acronyms. For Example 'SMILE' which stands for Structure, Meaning, Imagery, Language and Effect allows you to keep these aspects in your mind whilst writing a poem or even an essay. It gives you something to start with, if you don't know where to begin. I believe that these acronyms will come in useful when it comes down to writing a real analysis of a poem in the exam, as we can refer to these acronyms.

We decided to make our own acronyms in groups using words which we though would help us remember what we need to include whilst writing a poem my groups was 'MOTELSRAP'. I was extremely proud of my contribution to the group when coming up with this name as my group felt that they would be able to remember this. Therefor I felt as though I provided my group with a basis to work on when they need to write a poem. I also believe this acronym has helped me a lot as well, as I will remember it and use it as a guideline to writing or analyzing a poem.

At first I felt as though I would need to improve on my Analysis of poems, but after creating this acronym I feel more confident and understand how to improve my analysis's. I need to link the poem to the acronym and discuss how they link. I intend to achieve this by writing the acronym down before starting to analyze any poem or article.

Overall this week was a success and I would like to know more about how I can keep on improving my analysis skills.

  1. Maybe we should put our acronym to the test and analyze a real poem with it?
